Finally time to upload this one! I made Finn's sword back in December, but things have been so crazy that I didn't had the time to upload the process shots XD
It was made using expanding foam. I first cut a base in the shape of the sword out of cardboard and covered with the foam. Then I carved it using an exacto knife, covered in newspaper & glue, finished it off with spackling paste, and gave it a nice spray paint coat. Then I just added the details, the little gems on both sides, the leather strap and painted the battle marks using acrylics XD
I just loved this process, it's so easy and fun for me. And the result is a very lightweight and resistant prop. I think this will be my method for doing everything from now on XD
Well, for me it's better, I prefer carving stuff than molding them, so the expanding foam is just what I need XD in fact this method can be finished off using the paper mache instead of the spackling paste, I haven't tried that yet though.
Ah I see I suppose it does come down to what methods you prefer...I am useless at carving, but it might be worth trying one day since it seems to yield such good effects ^^ Thanks for the reply ^^
yup, indeed XD If you do try it out, just make sure you get the exact shape you want on the carving process. If you mess up and think "I'll just add something there later", it won't work 8D
